An Overview of Sunless Tanning Solutions

The main reason why sunless tanning methods are very popular is that there are many people who live in areas where there is no constant sunshine and most of these people can't afford an expensive vacation each month to go and restore their tan. Another reason for the increasing popularity of sunless tanning methods is that constant and regular exposure to the UV rays of the sun increases the risk of you developing skin cancer. Also known as self-tanning, sunless tanning offers many easy and harmless ways for individuals to achieve their desired results.

Sunless tanning can be in the shape of tanning creams, tanning lotions, tanning pills, tanning sprays, and tanning beds. The efficiency and results of these solutions vary from one another. Here are the four most common sunless tanning methods:

 Sunless tanning lotions

Most sunless lotions have a bronzing ingredient called DHA (dihydroxyacetone). This ingredient is a colorless type of sugar which interacts with dead cells of the skin, changing the color of that skin. This color change generally lasts for 5-7 days after the first application. Sunless lotions are quite a popular self-tanning method but the only disadvantage is that it's very difficult to get an even tan. For more info, go here.

 Spray tanning

This is similar to tanning lotion but the only difference here is that a spray is used instead of a lotion. Spray tanning may be done with a spray gun or manually. If you want to apply it automatically, you should consider getting a tanning booth. There's a recent version of spray tanning, which is a colorless tanning solution. This solution doesn't come with a bronzer but offers a more even, less streaky tan. Keep these things in mind at all times.

 Tanning pills

Tanning pills are usually available in three forms-pills without active ingredients, pills which have tyrosine, and pills which have caretenoid pigments. When consumed internally, pills with caretenoid pigments saturate fat layers just under the skin, resulting in a skin color change. The latter two types of tanning pills haven't been shown to have any noticeable effect on skin color.

 Tanning beds

Tanning beds are also called sun beds. They come with fluorescent tubes which tan your skin by releasing ultraviolet (UV) rays. While tanning beds are known to be an efficient self-tanning option, continuous use can cause skin aging and skin cancer.

Different sunless tanning methods have different prices for one or several visits to a tanning salon.  All in all, sunless tanning methods can help you easily get that lovely bronzed appearance without harming your skin.
